Managing the difficult diabetic patient Diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus is not always as straight forward as we’d like. Transient diabetics, insulin resistance, and concurrent diseases will be addressed in this discussion of diabetes, as well as several case studies.

· Diagnosis and management of Cushing’s disease The use of various diagnostic tests in confirming a diagnosis of Cushing’s disease will be discussed. In addition, treatment options, including Lysodren and Trilostane will be addressed in a case presentation setting.

· Diagnostic approach to Nasal Discharge Chronic nasal discharge can be a very frustrating condition in both dogs and cats. This presentation will discuss a step-by-step approach to various types of discharge and therapies associated with a variety of diagnoses.

· Minimally-invasive Urinary tract procedures Owners are becoming more and more interested in less invasive techniques to treat various conditions in their pets. Minimally invasive techniques for cystic calculi, ectopic ureters, and urethral obstructive processes will be discussed in a case based manner.

Techniques Laboratory

Advanced Extraction
This is a hands on laboratory dedicated to difficult extractions, including extraction of carnassial and canine teeth as surgical extraction of retained roots. Flap creation, buccal cortical bone removal, elevation, extraction, and tension free closure are covered in detail.

Dental Radiolgy Interp
This is an intense hands on wet lab in which participants will learn proper positioning and exposure technique for dental radiology. We will cover bisecting angles, but will concentrate on the "simplified" technique. Proper development procedures and storage will also be taught.

Radiolgy Interp
This is an interactive lecture on interpretation of dental radiographs. Covering determining which teeth are imaged, normal anatomy, as well as endodontic disease, periodontal disease, neoplasia, trauma, Tooth resorption, and caries lesions.

Marketing dentistry
Get more out of your dental department and have happeier, healthier patients! This is an in depth lecture on how to sell advanced and routine veterinary dental procedures, especially the importance of client education. The presentation stresses severe local and systemic effects of periodontal and endodontic disease.

 

Ultrasound Laboratory

option 1
This course is structured around a practical understanding of ultrasound for clinical use. The lecture goal is to familiarize attendees with ultrasound artifacts and how they help interpretation, ultrasound characteristics of tissue and how to move the ultrasound probe to perform a complete examination. Following this we will discuss the Emergency Abdomen. The 80/20 principle is very much alive in veterinary ultrasound. Eighty percent of the emergency veterinary cases encompass twenty percent of the possible diseases. Veterinarians learning ultrasound need to familiarize themselves with the ultrasound appearance of the most common emergency conditions. This lecture/ lab combination focuses on common diseases that will kill a patient in 4 hours and how to diagnose them on ultrasound

Bonded Sealants Lab
Chip fractures (also called uncomplicated crown fractures) are avery common occurance in large breed dogs. This is a hands-on wetlab in the proper performance of bonded sealants in veterinary dentistry. Topics include indications (and contraindications), techniques of smoothing and etching the surface, and applying the sealant.

Restoratives Laboratory
This is a hands-on wetlab in the proper performance of composite restorations in veterinary dentistry for caries and enamel hypocalcification. Topics include: indications (and contraindications), techniques of cavity preparation for maximum retenton, etching the surface, applying the sealant. and composite, and finishing the restoration.
