FRIDAY 10.07.11
Lecture Hall Laboratory

8-9:30
Basic U/S Lecture (Prerec for Lab)
Having a fundamental understanding of ultrasound physics, tissue interpretation and probe movement is essential. This basic course is structured around a practical understanding of ultrasound for clinical use. The lecture goal is to familiarize attendees with ultrasound artifacts and how they help interpretation, ultrasound characteristics of tissue and how to move the ultrasound probe to perform a complete examination.

Basic Extraction

Techniques Laboratory
The lecture part will initiate with a discussion of equipment needs and then cover pain management. Following this, we will cover techniques for single and double root teeth in both lecture and laboratory sessions.

10-11:30
Emerg U/S Lecture (Prerec for Lab)
The 80/20 principle is very much alive in veterinary ultrasound. Eighty percent of the emergency veterinary cases encompass twenty percent of the possible diseases. Veterinarians learning ultrasound need to familiarize themselves with the ultrasound appearance of the most common emergency conditions. This lecture/ lab combination focuses on common diseases that will kill a patient in 4 hours and how to diagnose them on ultrasound.

1:30-2:30
Periodontal Disease

Rad Interp Lecture

The high resolution of digital radiography has presented new challenges in image interpretation. Deciding between normal and abnormal can be difficult when a clinician transitions from traditional film to digital. This lecture/lab combination focuses on highlighting the "new" radiographic normal of digital radiography.

Masterclass
Do you find that almost every cat has a bronchial pattern on digital radiographs? If so this class is for you. Radiograph interpretation cannot happen in a vacuum. Every case has a visual story to tell and which findings are important and which are not. Masterclass attendees will be provided cases in advance. We will discuss these cases in an open forum setting and I will conclude each case with a concise interpretative approach.
